Civil Engineer resume FAQ
Where should I put my PE license on a civil engineer resume?
Place it right after your name (for example, Jordan Smith, PE) and repeat it in a Licenses section with the issuing state, plus the license number if the posting asks for it. If you have passed the FE exam but are not licensed yet, write EIT instead and add your planned PE exam date if it is scheduled.
How do I list projects on a civil engineer resume?
Within each job, describe your most important projects with the type, construction value, your role and a result such as on-time delivery, cost savings or a permit secured. Senior engineers often add a separate Project Experience list. Keep the client generic when needed, for example “a county transportation agency”.
Which software should a civil engineer list?
AutoCAD Civil 3D is expected for most design roles. Add specialty tools for your discipline: HEC-RAS or HydroCAD for water resources, STAAD.Pro or SAP2000 for structures, OpenRoads for DOT work, and Bluebeam or Procore for construction-phase work. Only list software you could use productively on day one.
